.
. . a remarkable event changed the direction of the McLaughlin family
business: Bruce and Betty bought their first Arabian horse. In the
1960s, Bru-Bet Inc. was founded on a mission to breed the very finest
Arabian horses. With the help of their four young sons, they brought
home numerous wins in the show ring. The most impressive win was
the 1984 Reserve National Stallion GG Jabask shown by Terry McLaughlin. The
term "Golden Cross" was coined when the McLaughlins bred over 30
Serafix daughters of the Bask/Serafix cross.
The
direction of this Golden Cross changed during one of the McLaughlin's
early trips to California, when they came across a farm advertising
"Imported Russian Arabians". The farm, Make Believe, owned
by Robert Stratmore, represented some of the most impressive horses
that the McLaughlin's had ever seen. Two particular world-famous
stallions caught their attention, *Salon and *Padron, but more impressive
were the powerful mares, including the world famous *Palitra. She
was the most beautiful creature the McLaughlin's had ever seen.
Equally beautiful was *Palitra's yearling colt, Ponomarev. It was
at this moment that the McLaughlin's knew their search for a new
outcross had ended. They immediately made an offer on Ponomarev
but Mr.Stratmore refused to sell. Little did they know, 30 years
later they would own a son of Palitra and seven daughters of the
great stallion Ponomarev.
Today
Bruce, Terry, Kitty, and his son Sean are striving to breed the
very best Russian Arabians in North America. They continue to concentrate
efforts on horses with an emphasis on extreme athleticism and extreme
beauty.
We
